Background
     
Growing up in the mid-west city of Minneapolis in the 1940s and 1950s, I developed a keen sensitivity to the environment composed of rural fields of corn and wheat to the south and west, heavily forested terrain to the north, and countless rivers, streams and lakes across the region. The seasonal climatic changes provided additional visual stimulation. I have felt inclined toward the creative process from my earliest childhood memories. Though never encouraged to study the arts in school, I independently studied the works of such masters as Cezanne, Gauguin, Matisse, Van Gogh, Monet and Kandinsky. Trips to art events and many outdoor hikes and excursions were the ingredients that germinated during my youth. I first explored the use of watercolor, oils, charcoal and photography but was most attracted to the emerging acrylic medium. As an adult student I took coursework at the University of Minnesota School of Fine Arts through the encouragement of my wife. In the 1990s, I exhibited and sold art in galleries in Minneapolis & California. I have also displayed paintings in large corporations located in the Twin Cities. I have consistently received favorable feedback from persons trained in the marketing and display of art.

Far more than an avocation, art has made me feel more alive and engaged - and quite often exhilarated. After returning to Minnesota in 2004 after working as a public conservator in California, I took 12 years to solely develop my strengths, interests and techniques in the Fine Arts. This was a period to challenge and stretch myself in terms of creating a wider variety of subject matter, use of newer materials and larger canvases. This immersion into the essence of my work as an Artist has been freeing and expanded my confidence and competence. In 2016, a move was made to Madison,  Wisconsin.
 
Overall, I have created over 500 significant works over the last 40 years. I have done commissioned pieces, and painted a 6 ft. x 6 ft. cityscape for a Minneapolis art collector.  Art has been a "great ride" for me. Hope you enjoy my work!
